Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP)
Culturally attuned fully funded psychotherapy for refugees and protected persons in Ontario.
Compassionate Therapy for Rebuilding and Resettlement
Navigating life in a new country involves immense transitional stress, community displacement, family separation, and systemic adjustment challenges. Prioritizing your psychological well-being during this critical phase is vital, and financial constraints should never stand in your way.
Our practice specializes in dedicated refugee care. We provide a deeply safe, trauma-informed, and confidential space to help individuals process migration trauma, systemic isolation, anxiety, and mood changes as they rebuild their lives in Canada.
Who is Eligible for IFHP Mental Health Coverage?
The Interim Federal Health Program provides temporary health insurance coverage to specific groups who do not yet qualify for provincial health insurance (OHIP). You are eligible for fully covered therapy if you are:
Refugee Claimants – Individuals who have landed in Canada and filed a formal claim for refugee protection.
Convention Refugees & Protected Persons – Individuals whose claims have been officially approved by the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).
Resettled Refugees – Government-assisted or privately sponsored refugees during their initial transition period in Canada.
Individuals being held under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Understanding Your IFHP Mental Health Benefits
The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) is a Canadian government initiative designed to offer temporary health insurance to protected persons and refugee claimants. The program fully recognizes the necessity of mental health care, covering core psychological and counseling services with no out-of-pocket costs to the individual.
Dawn Therapy is an approved, registered provider with Medavie Blue Cross for the IFHP. We manage the entire claims process internally, handling the administrative frameworks and billing Blue Cross directly on your behalf so you can focus entirely on your stability and integration.
